Chief Secretary to lead trade team to Singapore

Chief Secretary B K Patnaik will lead a high-level delegation of top Government officials and entrepreneurs of the State to Singapore to take part in the one-day business summit “Invest Bhubaneswar...Connecting Odisha” on November 27.

The summit, hosted by Invest Bhubaneswar (IB), is aimed at promoting trade and business ties between Odisha and the island nation by projecting opportunities to investors and potential business partners.

The summit will also provide the platform for networking among businessmen, entrepreneurs and trade bodies of both the regions to evolve mutual relationships.

The event has already generated huge interest among the business fraternity in Singapore and around 100 investors and potential business partners are expected to take part. The Odisha delegation will comprise about 30 entrepreneurs from the State. The Government delegation includes Chief Secretary, Tourism Secretary, IT Secretary, Energy Secretary along with IDCO and IPICOL. The thrust areas for partnerships would be IT, infrastructure, alternative energy, education and tourism, Debasish Patnaik of IB said.

Invest Bhubaneswar came into existence in 2010 with the first symposium in Silicon Valley in the US to create opportunities for Odisha-based businesses, entrepreneurs and start-ups in the emerging sectors. The efforts of Invest Bhubaneswar resulted in formation of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Bhubaneswar Chapter, which has now developed strong links between Odisha entrepreneurs and global community. The IB has been holding an annual event in Odisha to attract foreign and domestic investors to the State and link them to the opportunities here.

Singapore has been chosen for the summit this year as it is at the forefront of business, technology and commerce. It also opens doors to important markets of South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, China and Taiwan. That its business community comprises a large number of members of Indian origin is an added advantage, IB members Ayaskant Mohanty and Annada Padhi stated.
