Police PRO dupes youths with job promises, vanishes

Nayak had allegedly taken Rs 7 lakh from one RK Padhy to give him a job.

In what is a major embarrassment to the Commissionerate Police, its Public Relations Officer Rabi Chandra Nayak has been accused of minting lakhs of rupees from gullible youths on the pretext of providing them police jobs. What’s more bizarre, Nayak has gone on leave and is untraceable for the last several weeks even as his senior officials have been trying to locate him.  An FIR has been registered with Badagada police station in this connection. The matter came to light after one Rama Krushna Padhy of Ganjam’s Saru village reported to police about Nayak’s activities.

The Commissionerate PRO had allegedly taken Rs 7 lakh from Padhy to give him a job either in the Reserve Police or Traffic Police claiming that he is influential in Commissionerate Police and can pull the strings when necessary.  Once he received the money from Padhy, Nayak stopped receiving his calls prompting the former to make an attempt to meet him at the Commissionerate of Police office. However, it yielded no result.

Interestingly, Nayak had entered into an agreement with Padhy for taking Rs 20 lakh from him on the ground that he had financial problems and was borrowing the cash from the latter.

Police suspect he may have taken that money on behalf of more than one person promising them jobs.

The Commissionerate Police efforts to trace him have gone in vain. His leaves have been declared illegal but Nayak continues to be untraceable.

IIC of Badagada police station Janardhan Padhi said he received just one complaint and was not aware of more such allegations.
