CV Raman College closed its Marine Engineering department sine die and asked its students to vacate the hostel  after the students of the department called a strike on Monday.

Around 120 students of the Marine Engineering department gave the strike call protesting negligence on the part of the college officials in conducting timely placements.

The Marine Engineering department of the college, which had opened in 2009, is affiliated to Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai, a Central University under the Government of India.

The students have claimed that the last placements for the Marine Engineering department had taken place when the department was affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT).

“No placements have taken place since the past five years and most of our seniors have got jobs through off campus placements,” an agitating student said.
