Tension over outsiders issue

Tension prevailed in Phulbani town on Tuesday during verification of certificates of candidates who had applied for sikhya sahayak posts.

The District Education authorities had invited applications for 753 sikhya sahayak posts, of which 237 are for Balliguda, 260 for Phulbani and 256 for Tikabali education district.

The applicants were instructed to be present at the Government Girls Primary School near the District Education Office  with original certificates for verification.

Accordingly, 2,259 B.Ed, CT qualified and untrained Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste category candidates turned up for certificate verification.

When the candidates reached the school, some locals, protesting the appointment of outsiders, misbehaved with the former and assaulted some others.

The protesters did not allow candidates from outside the district to enter the school for verification following which tension prevailed.

The candidates approached Collector BS Poonia, who assured to give an opportunity to the candidates for verification of certificates. But the miscreants did not allow the candidates to go for verification.

The Collector said another date will be fixed for those who failed to get the verification done on Tuesday. No arrests have been made so far.
