Shopkeeper done to death

A 70-year-old man was ruthlessly murdered by some unidentified persons at Nuasahi in Choudwar town late on Wednesday. The man, Gobind Samal, was found lying in a pool of blood outside his shop on Thursday morning.

Samal, a retired employee in the R&B Department, had been running a small general store in the area. He used to sleep inside the shop every night. On Wednesday night too he had gone to the shop after dinner at his house a few metres away and suspected to have been attacked in the dead of the night.

Police said, his throat was slit with a sharp weapon and he had bled to death. It is presumed that he was dragged outside the shop and attacked.

The reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained and further investigation is on.

Student Hangs Self

Bhubaneswar: A student, who had enrolled in a private coaching institute of the City, allegedly ended her life here on Thursday.

Shatabdi Jena (17), who was receiving coaching for medical entrance at the Akash Institute, is suspected to have used a dupatta to hang herself in the bathroom of the mess in Madhusudan Nagar area under Kharavela Nagar police limits where she was staying.

Shatabdi belonged to Jajpur district but her family resides in Rourkela. The reason behind her suicide is being ascertained.

Girl Missing

Bhubaneswar: A five-year-old girl went missing from Aiginia area of the City after she was sent to buy a matchbox from a nearby shop. A case has been lodged with Khandagiri Police.

Leeza, the kid, was asked to fetch the matchbox from a shop by her father, Akshaya Das, but she did not return home. The worried parents searched for her in vain. The local police were informed and a case has been registered.

INFANT ABDUCTED: In a separate incident, a three-month-old baby was allegedly kidnapped by two bike-borne miscreants near Bhubaneswar Railway Station in the wee hours of Thursday.

The woman, Saraswati Sahoo, was sleeping near the platform when her daughter was allegedly picked up by the miscreants. A complaint has been lodged with Government Railway Police.
