Congress kicks off membership drive

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik has asked partymen to intensify the membership drive in every village and town of the State.

Patnaik on Tuesday launched the membership drive of Congress for 2011-15 in Unit-IX area which comes under Bhubaneswar (central) Assembly constituency. Stating that Congress party is 128 years old, Patnaik said it has always been with the people from the pre-independence days.

Everybody is a worker in the party, Patnaik said, adding, the more the number of ordinary members, more stronger will be the Congress. He called upon the party leaders and workers to sincerely involve themselves in the membership drive.

An OPCC release claimed that a large number of people were enrolled as members on Tuesday itself. Vice-president of Bhubaneswar district BJP Rajendra Kumar Das and a mandal president of BJP Manguli Singh joined the Congress.  Member of the Congress Election Authority Anant Prasad Sethi, senior leaders Kishore Chandra Patel, Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra, Jagannath Patnaik and president of Mahila Congress Bijaylaxmi Sahu called upon people to join Congress in large numbers
