Maoist rebels Thursday killed a village guard in Odisha's Koraput district, a day after kidnapping him from his home, police said.

About 25-30 armed rebels had abducted Bhagaban Nayak from his home at Girliput village, about 550 km from here, Wednesday night.

Nayak's body was found in a forested area about 12 km from the village, Superintendent of Police Avinash Kumar told IANS.

The rebels have been threatening village guards and other policemen in Koraput to quit their jobs if they want to stay alive, police said.
