No Palli Sabhas in 37 Jeypore villages

Palli Sabhas could not be conducted in 37 villages in Jeypore, reportedly due to Maoist threat.

Cadres of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) outfit had earlier issued diktat in every village directing people not to attend the Palli Sabha and Gram Sabha meetings to be conducted by the State Government under ‘Gram Sabha Shashaktikaran Karyakrama’.

While the Palli Sabhas continued till October 12, Gram Sabhas began on Wednesday and would end on Thursday.

These meetings were aimed at discussing proposed development programmes for villages.  According to official reports, the district administration had chalked out plans to conduct Palli Sabhas in 1,911 revenue villages in the district. However, the meetings could be held in 1,846 villages. The villages where none attended the meetings are mostly located in Maoist- infested blocks of Narayanpatna, Bandhugam and Boipariguda.
