The festive fervour was marred for a while on Sunday after the idol of Goddess Durga at Telephone Bhawan broke into pieces.
Durga Puja celebrations at Telephone Bhawan ground are considered one of the best and its pandal is a crowd-puller.
Sources said around 4.30 pm, the idol of Goddess Durga broke from the waist and turned into pieces. Locals said that the idol had not completely dried up as a result of which, it collapsed.
The incident occurred while preparations were on for evening puja.
The agitated committee members were left with no option but to hurriedly make alternative arrangement.
Meanwhile, festive mood across Rourkela city and elsewhere in Sundargarh district was upbeat on Astami Puja on Monday.
At Rourkela, thousands of Pandal hoppers were seen coming out of their homes to enjoy the innovative and expensive Pandal decorations. Every nook and cranny of the city presented a festive look.
