Maoists gun down ‘informer’

Maoists gunned down a suspected police informer in Nilabadi village in Koraput district on Sunday night.

The blood-stained body of Gumpha Wadeka (45) of Dempiguda under Bandhugaon police limits was spotted by villagers near Nilabadi on Sunday night, police said.

The Maoists, who shot Gumpha from close range on his temple, left a letter near the body.

The letter said they had warned him earlier to refrain from anti-Maoist activities. He was a police informer  passing information about Maoist operation in the area, the note claimed.

However, SDPO, Laxmipur, Y. Jagannath Rao denied the charges stating that Gumpha was not a police informer.
