Cops escape Maoist landmine blast

A team of Border Security Force (BSF) and Kalimela Police had a providential escape when a landmine planted by Maoists exploded at Tumkimadka on Kalimela-Bhejanguda road on Monday.

The high intense blast took place at around 2.30 pm when the BSF jawans and district police personnel were removing trees felled by Maoists during a bandh called by them two days back.

No one was injured as the landmine exploded about 50 mts away from the spot.

A few hours later, the Kalimela Police detained four persons, suspecting their involvement, for interrogation. They were released in the evening.

Combing operations and patrolling by security forces have been intensified in the area.

The landmine explosion came a day after armed Maoists torched a heavy machine used in construction work and damaged materials in Kalimela area of the district.
