No respite from elephant ravage in Bargarh

 Elephants destroyed crops in large tracts of agricultural land in Ambabhona block of Bargarh district on Monday.

As per reports, the herd strayed into Baddhara, Salepali, Ganpara, Bhukta and Pichholi area of the block and damaged standing crops. The animals had strayed into the area on Saturday night.

 Forest officials said 18 elephants had strayed from their corridor in search of fodder. While the herd is currently at Joypur in Bhatli block, efforts are underway to send them back to their habitat in Debrigarh.

 Bargarh DFO Rajat Lenka said the revenue inspector has been asked to visit the areas and assess the loss.
