Unidentified miscreants killed a youth leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Abhimanyu Sahu (45), while he was on his morning walk at Bandopala locality in Titlagarh on Sunday.

Sahu was found in a pool of blood with his throat slit, sources said. Locals rushed him to sub-divisional hospital in Titlagarh where doctors declared him brought dead.

Sahu was on his morning walk as usual when miscreants attacked him with sharp weapons about 1 km from his house.

He was the general secretary of the Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD). Police have launched a manhunt to nab the culprits.

Tension gripped Titlagarh as the news of the murder of the youth leader spread.

Agitated people gheraoed the  police station demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

Police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder. It is speculated that it was a political murder.

Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Titlagarh Chintamani Pradhan said it was too early to talk about the motive behind the murder. “We are investigating the case and it is difficult to say anything now,” Pradhan said.

Sahu was an aspirant for MLA ticket for Titlagarh constituency in the coming Assembly election.
