Submit Reports or Face Music

The Fee Structure Committee (FSC) under Department of Technical Education and Training(DTET) has decided to impose fine on the professional colleges which have not submitted their audit reports yet.

The Fee Structure Committee (FSC) under Department of Technical Education and Training(DTET) has decided to impose fine on the professional colleges which have not submitted their audit reports yet.

Based on the audit reports, FSC can either enhance or reduce the fee structure of a college. After the review meeting held here recently which was attended by the members of Odisha Management Colleges’ Association (OMCA), DTET Department and FSC officials, it was found that many of the MBA and MCA colleges are yet to submit their audit reports.

DTET had directed FSC to fast forward finalisation of fee revision for the professional colleges after the management colleges’ association protested the delay.

Sources said that few of the colleges are deliberately delaying submission of the requisite documents as they do not want to be inspected by the FSC. A sub-committee was set up to look into the complaint filed by OMCA. But,the association members reportedly asked for additional 15 days time to submit the audit reports, after FSC decided to fine the defaulters.

OMCA had written to DTET that despite the notice for fee revision in January, no progress has been made so far. It was mentioned that even though two months after the academic session 2013-14 commenced, the FSC had not taken any decision about fee revision. All the colleges whose fee structure was revised during the academic session 2010-11 are being considered by FSC this time.

The notification for fee revision was issued in January this year and the fee revision was expected to be finalised prior to July. A mid-session revision of the fee structure will not be feasible as the students will not accept it, sources said.

The professional colleges have to submit audit reports of their expenditure, student details and proposal for fee revision as per the Orissa Professional Education Act (OPEA), 2007.
