A woman was killed by her husband for giving birth to a girl child for third time on Sunday.
Sanjukta Behera (28) was allegedly burnt alive by her husband Umesh (34) at Balabhadrapur village under Kendrapara Sadar police limits after she gave birth to the girl child recently.
An FIR has been filed against Umesh by the deceased’s brother Satyananada Behera. He alleged that the couple used to often fight over the issue and Umesh had threatened his wife that he would marry again if she did not give birth to a son this time.
Police have arrested Umesh and produced him in court on Monday which remanded him in judicial custody after rejecting his bail plea. The body of Sanjukta has been seized and sent for post mortem.
