Twenty persons including five children of Palasmunduli village under Morada block of Mayurbhanj district have been affected with jaundice. The incident came into light on Wednesday when locals informed the CDMO.
They alleged that though people had been suffering from the disease for last three days, no health official had visited the village yet. The local PHC was intimated about the incident but they preferred to remain silent, they claimed.
The affected villagers were rushed to the PHC but were immediately referred to the district headquarters hospital after their condition deteriorated due to unavailability of medicines. “We suspect that those affected had consumed contaminated water,” said CDMO Chandan Murmu. He said a team of medical staff had been sent to the spot.
