The State Government has drawn a merit list of 15,235 students on the basis of the marks scored in the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) examination for distribution of laptops in 2013.

Distribution of laptops which were stopped because of elections to urban body polls (ULBs) has again been started in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently.

Official sources said laptops will be distributed to 7,074 students in Plus Two Science stream out of which 5,055 will be general category students, 1,151 scheduled caste and 868 scheduled tribe students. In the Plus Two arts stream, 6,126 students have been selected to receive laptops out of which 3,565 will be from general category, 1,639 scheduled caste and 922 scheduled tribe students.

In the commerce stream, laptops will be distributed to 2,035 students including 1527 from the general category, 267 from the scheduled caste and 241 from the scheduled tribe.

Laptops will be distributed in 30 nodal centres. The Principals of the colleges, which are declared as nodal centres, will distribute the laptops to the students. The information technology (IT) department will deliver the laptops to respective principals of the nodal colleges.

The State Government has approved a committee at the district level headed by the Collector to monitor the entire process. The merit list will be drawn from among the students who have passed in the first division only.

After such coverage, if any surplus is found in allotted number of laptops for the SC and ST students in different streams, it will be equally distributed among the SC and ST students.
