In a bid to fill up large scale vacancies in junior lecturer posts, the State Government has decided to amend the Odisha Education Service rules and decided to relax the upper age limit from 33 to 40 years.
The relaxation in the upper age limit for junior lecturers will be one-time affair. The Government decided to lift the freeze on recruitment of junior lecturers after nearly 25 years. Junior lecturers have not been recruited for the colleges since 1989. The relaxation in the age bar will help deserving candidates, who are working elsewhere, get recruitment in government run colleges.
The Higher Education department has requested to fill up 281 posts of junior lecturers through the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC). Besides, it has also been decided to fill up 800 posts through ad hoc appointment. In a separate move, the Higher Education department has decided to allow candidates, who have completed PhD before 2009 notification of University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, in the recruitment process. As UGC has changed the regulation for MPhil and PhD candidates after 2009, many were debarred from participating in the recruitment process.
The State Government has decided that candidates, who have PhD before 2009 or have qualified in National Eligibility Test (NET), will be allowed to participate in the recruitment process for junior lecturers.
