Four Robbers Arrested

BHUBANESWAR: Police on Tuesday arrested four members of a gang of robbers operating in the Capital City since long.

The arrested are Babu Khan (22) of Lalbazar in Howrah, Bapi Biswal (32) of Khantapada in Balasore, Tiki Khan (23) of Nuagaon in Kendrapara and Sk Qutabuddin (37) of Midnapore in West Bengal. They were staying in a rented house in Laxmi Sagar here.

A few days back, they had stolen gold and diamond jewellery from the houses of Mousami Chatterjee and Dhanusdhari Mishra in Arya Bhumi complex at Patia. Two cases were registered with Chandrasekharpur police.

Police apprehended the accused from a jewellery shop near Lingaraj Road railway station while they were trying to sell the items. Three of the accused have criminal antecedents. Some members of the gang have been operating for the last 10 years. Bapi has 27 cases pending against him at several police stations in the State. He also used illegal firearms and explosives for committing crime, police said.
