Balasore Pitches in for Proposed IIM

BALASORE: Even as educationists in the Capital City insist that the proposed IIM need to be set up at Bhubaneswar, people here have intensified their demand for setting up the premier institution of management at Balasore.

While a group of students’ organisations on Saturday resorted to a signature campaign and submitted memoranda addressed to the President and Prime Minister of India, besides the Chief Minister.

North Orissa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI) convenor, Amit Behera, said Balasore is a manufacturing hub, well connected by rail, road and almost equidistant from two State Capitals - Bhubaneswar, Kolkata. He said Balasore is also close to two more manufacturing zones of Kalinga Nagar and Jamshedpur.

Behera added that adequate land and other social infrastructure are readily available at Balasore.

Government Chief Whip Ananta Das, who is an MLA from Bhogarai, said they have placed their demand before the State Government, which has assured them to look into it.

Earlier, Balasore Chamber of Industries and Commerce (BCIC) had resolved that the institution should be set up at Balasore.
