BHUBANESWAR: Outrage over large scale discrepancy in Plus Two results spilled on to the streets as hundreds of students and their parents laid siege to the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) head office here on Monday prompting the Higher Education Department to order a re-verification within 48 hours.
“Students, who approached the CHSE office to complain about discrepancies, have been asked to submit their applications. The cases would be addressed within two days,” Minister of State (Independent) for Higher Education Pradeep Panigrahy told mediapersons after holding a meeting with CHSE officials.
Photostat copies of the answer sheets will be provided to all such applicants within two days and cases of gross discrepancies (single digit marks) will be sorted. If students seek further redressal, their cases will be addressed within 10 days of application, Panigrahy added.
Though the aggrieved students complained of abnormally low scores in certain subjects, the Department agreed only to re-addition and re-checking against the demands for revaluation which the CHSE statute does not provide for.
With students and their guardians crowding the CHSE office where they kept the council officials confined for several hours of the day, the Department was forced to face a situation akin to what had happened during this year’s High School Certificate (HSC) results declared recently.
The Minister directed the council to set up two helpline numbers to receive grievances of the students and at the same time put in place dedicated counters to collect the complaint applications from the students.
“The CHSE has been asked to facilitate the process for the students though we believe this year, the results have been fairly good.
The success rate in most of the major colleges has improved but we have asked for a report from the CHSE about the discrepancies alleged by the students,” he said.
The Department also said in case instances of serious discrepancies are noticed in certain subjects, the cases will be referred to an expert committee which will review the papers and take a call.
