Name Plates at Govt Quarters Defaced

BHUBANESWAR: Demanding maximum use of Odia language in offices, activists of Samaj Andolan on Wednesday staged demonstration in front of Government quarters and blackened the name plates which had names of officials inscribed in English.

The protestors also organised rallies and token protests here on the occasion of Utkal Divas over use of Odia language in Government offices.

After painting the plates black, the protestors pasted stickers that stated that Odia should be used to display names and designations instead of any other language.

Even PCR vans were not spared. The activists removed the labels which were displayed on the vehicles written in English.

Sources said five persons, who disfigured the name plates at official residences, were detained by the Commissionerate Police.
