Newborn's Death Sparks Tension

BHUBANESWAR: Tension ran high at the Capital Hospital here on Wednesday afternoon after death of a newborn baby.

The incident occurred at around 10.30 pm, a few minutes after delivery of the infant. While parents and relatives of the baby accused the doctors and para-medical staff of negligence which led to the death, the hospital authority denied the charges.

It was alleged that a nurse, who was carrying the baby, dropped the latter on the ground which resulted in the infant’s death.

Director of Capital Hospital Dr Binod Mishra said, “The baby’s death was not due to medical negligence. The infant had complications prior to the delivery which was the reason behind its death.”

Situation was brought under control after hospital administration intervened and pacified the grief-stricken kin of the deceased baby.
