SALEPUR: Tension ran high in Sirasunderpur village under Govindpur police limits on Sunday noon after some unidentified miscreants hurled a bomb and set fire to a JCB machine, which was being used for repairing and strengthening the right embankment of river Devi.

According to eyewitnesses, the JCB machine was being used for excavating and putting soil on the embankment when four miscreants came on two motorcycles and hurled a bomb. They asked the driver of the machine to get down, doused the machine with petrol and set fire to it before fleeing.

On being informed, the fire fighters of Adaspur fire station came to the spot and extinguished the fire.

OIC of Govindpur police station Jugal Kishore Das said no FIR has been filed in connection with the incident yet. Police suspect that extortion might have been the reason behind the incident. “The anti-socials might have done so to threaten the contractor in charge of the embankment repair work for extortion of money,” the OIC added.
