Liquor Shop Ransacked

JAGATSINGHPUR:  Locals ransacked a foreign liquor shop at Balitutha Bazaar under Kujang police limits on Friday. They then staged a dharna at the bazaar by blocking the road, as a result of which, traffic on the Balitutha-Kujang road was paralysed for several hours.

The agitators said as per norms, liquor shops should be located 500 metres away from residential areas and 100 metres away from places of worship and educational institutions. In violation of the norms, the liquor shop was located right in the middle of the bazaar, which led to rise in criminal activities. Women and children often feared to venture into the area as anti-socials gathered outside the liquor shop. Even as the villagers had demanded shifting of the liquor shop from the area, the district administration and Excise officials paid no heed.

Police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators.
