Rain Delays Adhanga Yatra

Banajagis reached Adhanga late by a day, on Wednesday evening, due to damaged roads

JAGATSINGHPUR:  A day after incessant rain damaged the  Sabarapalli and Yajna Mandap near Nilakantheswar temple in Adhanga village under Biridi block of the district, repair work started on Wednesday. Here, the Daru for Devi Subhadra’s idol has been identified.

Although the Banajaga Yatra team members were supposed to reach Adhanga by Tuesday night from Kanakpur, they could not do so as the approach road to the village was damaged at various places due to rain that continued for four hours. While some of the team members took shelter at Sarala temple, others stayed at a school in Balia. They resumed the journey on Wednesday morning and reached Adhanga by evening.

The Sabarapalli and Yajna Mandap that were erected near the temple on a paddy field, collapsed. Rituals like ‘Ankuraropan’ and ‘Daru Sodhan’ at the holy tree will be performed on Thursday, which will be followed by Mahayajna on Friday.

Sub-Collector Narahari Sethy said Sabarapalli and Yajna Mandap are being erected again after water was drained out. “Efforts are on to complete the works by Thursday morning prior to rituals”, he said.
