CUTTACK: In a major development, the Orissa High Court on Thursday directed the State Government to maintain status quo on the shifting of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) office from Cuttack to Bhubaneswar. The office of the SRC and Port Engineers was to be shifted to the State Capital from April 1.
Acting on a PIL filed by convenor, Cuttack Banchao Committee Barada Prasanna Patnaik, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice BR Sarangi issued notice to the State Government on the matter.
The petitioner stated that the office of SRC has been functioning in Cuttack since 1964 and there is no reason for shifting it. Indicating other circumstances, the petitioner has appealed to the court to quash the decision of the State Government.
