Protest Hits Work at Paradip Port

PARADIP:  Construction work and laying of pipeline from oil jetty to refinery at Paradip Port was affected after local contractors resorted to stir over non-payment of their dues by Fernas Construction India Pvt Ltd on Thursday.

The Indian subsidiary of Turkey-based company was awarded the project work worth `300 crore by IOCL. Around 16 contractors and construction agencies were pressed into service for civil and mechanical works by Fernas company. But since two years, the company authorities have not released `five crore to the contractors for their work.

On Wednesday, irate contractors had threatened to  stage a road blockade. The Kaz Stroy Service, a construction agency, had pressed around 80 contractors in Paradip for road construction work. ENS
