Jumbo Deaths: 2 Held

CUTTACK: A special team of Cuttack Forest Division on Monday arrested two persons on charges of electrocuting a female elephant and her calf at Chhatisapata near Pahilabara village under Dalijoda Forest Range on March 19.

The arrested were identified as Pandab Rout (40) and Mitu Nayak (25) of Pahilabara village. After committing the crime, the accused had left the village apprehending arrest, Cuttack DFO Sudarsan Behera said.

The team comprising ACF Sampada Kumar Mahapatra, Dalijoda range officer Dillip Kumar Singh, Deputy Ranger Pratap Chandra Mohanty and forester Kishore Chandra Parida conducted the raid and arrested the accused who have confessed their crime, said Behera.

Search is on to nab two more accused persons involved in killing of the elephants.
