Rally over User Fee Collection

ROURKELA: Congress workers on Monday took out a protest march opposing imposition of user fee by Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC).

Led by Rourkela District Congress Committee president Biren Senapati and former MLA Pravat Mohapatra, a delegation of the party met the RMC Commissioner DP Mohapatra and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Sundargarh Collector.

Opposing collection of user fee of `50 to `70 from each household towards lifting of garbage, they said the decision was not justified as the RMC is collecting holding tax and service cess. Besides, the Centre has already imposed 0.5 per cent cess towards Swachh Bharat campaign recently. They threatened to resort to agitation if RMC fails to roll back the decision. They also demanded immediate distribution of ration cards and augmentation of drinking water supply to dry slum pockets - MS Pali, Gopabandhupali, Timber Colony, Malgodam, Bondamunda and Deogaon - in the city.
