5 Boys Put to Shame for Stealing Cold Drinks

ANGUL: Five minor boys were punished by some villagers after they were accused of stealing cold drinks from a shop in Ambapal village under Kishorenagar police limits on Monday.

The villagers tied two of the five boys to a pole and put a garland of shoes around their neck. Later, all the five were made to kneel down for more than two hours under the blazing sun.

Of the five boys, two are dropouts while the rest are school-goers.

On a tip off, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) GS Behera rushed to the spot on Tuesday. Behera said the children are aged between 10 and 14 and had stolen some cold drinks from the shop. Some villagers, who noticed them stealing, punished the children without informing the police.

Angul SP Rajesh Pandit said a senior police officer has been asked to rush to the spot and directed the DCPO to conduct an inquiry and lodge an FIR at Kishorenagar police station.
