Guide Held for Duping Job Seekers

BHUBANESWAR: A 32-year-old Hotel Management graduate was arrested by Kharvela Nagar police on Wednesday on charges of defrauding youths by promising them Government jobs.

The accused, Chandra Bhanu Mahalik of Kapileswar area, has completed his diploma in hotel management from a college in Sambalpur. He is working as a private tour guide in Puri and Konark

Mahalik posed himself as an assistant manager in Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) and took
Rs.5.20 lakh from four youths who were seeking jobs.

Mahalik had promised the victims, including a woman aspirant, jobs of junior clerk and accountant in OTDC. He also gave them forged appointment letters.

The imposter was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by one Soudamini Nayak of Satya Nagar area. Mahalik was booked under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code and forwarded to court.
