SALEPUR: A dacoity and murder plan by a group of miscreants was foiled by Salepur police late on Saturday. All the five members of the gang have been arrested and weapons seized from their possession.

Addressing mediapersons here on Sunday, Cuttack SP (Rural) Gurudas Kundu said the arrested are kingpin Dipak Sahoo (27) of Sisua, Rohit Nayak (24) of Sankarpur in Dhenkanal, Uday Bhoi (26) of Hatasahi under Kandarpur police limits, Lipun Das (26) of  Kandarpur and car driver Prashant Satpathy (22) of Raghunathpur in Jagatsinghpur.

The seized items include five country-made revolvers, five knives, a hammer, two ropes, five mobile phones and an Indigo car.

Kundu said Sahoo was in jail for attempting to kill a 14-year-old boy Om Sai Swarup, son of Amulya Mishra of Sisua Baharapada, here in June last year. When Om had taken his sister’s mobile phone to Sahoo’s shop for repair, the latter copied her picture.

While Om protested, Sahoo slit his throat and fled from the shop by pulling down the shutter leaving the boy bleeding inside the shop. Some locals rescued Om and admitted him to SCBMCH, Cuttack.

Sahoo, who was arrested soon after, was released from jail recently and had hatched a plan to take revenge.
