Cuttack Gears up for Smooth Immersion

CUTTACK: The district administration and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) have put in place adequate measures to ensure smooth conduct of the immersion ceremony of idols of Basanti Durga which will begin in the Millennium City from Saturday.

The CMC with help of Water Resources Department has set up an artificial pond at Devi Gada on the banks of  Kathajodi river for the idol immersion ceremony.

“In response to the High Court order, a temporary pond has been dug up to minimise pollution of water bodies,” said CMC Commissioner Gyana Ranjan Das.  Collector and District Magistrate, Cuttack Nirmal Chandra Mishra has directed the CMC to ensure cleanliness and provide sufficient light arrangements at Devi Gada. He has also asked authorities of JICA to stop all ongoing repair and renovation works on routes in which the ‘Medhas’ will be taken in a procession for immersion.

A total of 17 idols of Basanti Durga worshipped at different Puja Mandaps will be immersed at the temporary pond, said Debendra Sahu, president of Cuttack Mahanagar Shanti Committee. The immersion ceremony will conclude on Sunday.
