Sweltering Heat in W Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Intense heat wave condition prevailed in Western Odisha districts with the mercury touching a blistering 46 degree Celsius in Sundargarh and Sonepur on Saturday even as temperature fell in coastal and southern parts.

Temperature in Titlagarh of Balangir district and Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district touched 45 degree Celsius. Places which recorded more than 44 degrees included Jharsuguda (44.4), Sambalpur (44), Hirakud and Talcher (44.6), weather office said and added that as many as 17 places recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius.

Temperature, however, fell to 39.7 degree Celsius in the Capital City. Meanwhile, 35 persons are suspected to have died of sunstroke in Odisha even as the State Government claimed that nobody has died due to heat related incident. ens
