KORAPUT: Over 500 families of Dasmanthpur block headquarters are suffering due to water crisis as the piped water supply system has been lying defunct for the last three months.

Protesting administrative apathy in repairing the system, hundreds of women blocked the Dasmanthpur-Koraput road on Monday disrupting vehicular communication for more than three hours. They also staged demonstration on the road with empty pitchers.

Though the residents in the past had apprised the authorities concerned about the crisis on several occasions, their pleas fell on deaf ears.

Junior Engineer, RWSS, SA Koresi rushed to the spot and convinced the women. He blamed Southco authorities for irregular power supply which has affected water distribution as the pump set could not be made functional. He assured to supply water through tankers and said piped water supply would resume soon after verification of water level.
