Anti-liquor Protesters Force Closure of Five Shops

SALEPUR: Local administration on Saturday closed down five liquor shops in Salepur after more than 400 women under the banner of Gramanchal Mahila Nisha Nibarana Committee staged a protest in front of the tehsil office in support their demands.

After public pressure, Salepur tehsildar Mahendra Prasad Mohanty took the permission of the district administration at the agitation spot and shut down two foreign liquor shops and one country liquor shop in Salepur town and one FL shop in Paga and another at Gopinathpur.

The agitators alleged that liquor is the main reason behind rising anti-social activities, atrocities against women and law and order situation in the area.

Mohanty said the licensed liquor shops have been shut down for an indefinite period until receipt of inquiry report by the district excise official.
