The cloud-based ‘Language-as-a-Service’ (LaaS) platform by Reverie Language Technologies delivers accurate multilingual solutions that enable millions of devices to go multilingual in real time.

Founded by Arvind Pani, Vivek Pani and SK Mohanty in 2009 to provide multilingual technical solutions, this Bengaluru-based company has been enabling businesses and services like online retail, e-commerce market places, travel, banks and financial services and e-governance to break the language barrier in the digital space by delivering first-class multilingual solutions.

Reverie’s ‘LaaS’ platform provides localisation services such as local-language translation, transliteration and multilingual input, search and display solutions through a set of intelligent Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).

Arvind, who was here to attend the Make-in-Odisha conclave recently, said the technology runs on plug-and-play concept which can be integrated into the business infrastructure. It enables people to consume digital content in their preferred language, he added.

These APIs and Software Development Kits (SDKs) are designed to handle different meanings of the same word in different domains, making them context-aware. The localisation API provided by the ‘LaaS’ platform aids in contextual transformation of content.

For instance, Arvind said, certain words assume different meanings in different contexts. “Play would be interpreted differently in the context of sports, music and theatre. Or, depending on the context, cricket might refer to a sport or an insect. The localisation API is domain-intelligent and therefore, provides accurate output in multiple languages,” he claimed.

The technology is useful for free-typing such as social media messaging apps, text editors such as the ones used in blogging, or integrated with applications that require user generated content/feedback.
Apart from the ‘LaaS’ and multilingual display solutions, Reverie is also major player in the multilingual app space.

Reverie’s ‘Swalekh Flip’ is an intuitive Android keyboard app that enables users type in their preferred language. It supports 22 languages and offers three modes for typing - English, phonetic and native. In the phonetic/transliteration mode, a user who is comfortable with English typing but wants to communicate in his/her regional language, can type in English and get the characters transliterated to the preferred language in real time.
