PURI: One person died on the spot and 11 others sustained injuries when the mini bus that they were travelling in overturned at Kathapola along the Puri-Bhubaneswar National Highway under Chandanpur police limits on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased is bus conductor Raghunath Jena, a resident of Bhoisahi of Alagum village. The bus was on the way to Alagum from Puri. Locals rescued the passengers and admitted them to Puri DHH. Seven of the 11 injured persons are critical.
Meanwhile, around C96,000 was stolen from a hotel room in Puri on Wednesday. Sources said, one Pravati Sharma with her family from Delhi had checked into Ashraya hotel located along the Sankaracharya Mutt lane under the Sea Beach police limits on December 11.
On Wednesday, when the family had gone out for lunch, some miscreants allegedly broke into their room and stole the money from a bag. Finding the cash missing, Pravati later went to Sea Beach police station to lodge a complaint. But the officer on duty allegedly refused to register the case. Getting information, SP Sarthak Sarangi intervened the matter following which a case was registered.
