BHUBANESWAR: The special team of Commissionerate of Police, led by an ACP-ranked officer, on Monday questioned a friend of Asutosh Mohanty who was present in the same private mess where the latter died on May 6 this year.

The probe has so far revealed that Asutosh alias Rishi died due to drug overdose. The police team, which was assigned the task of expediting the investigation, had earlier quizzed two acquaintances of Rishi who had accompanied him to the Capital Hospital on the fateful day.

The two rounds of quizzing have yielded similar responses from the witnesses that it was a case of drug overdose. Rishi’s death at a rented mess in Jagamara was registered as UD case and was being investigated by an Assistant SI of Khandagiri police.

There was no intent or pressure to brush aside facts and circumstantial evidence during the course of investigation, a senior police officer said. ‘’However, we do not want to leave any room for doubt in the probe amid significant attention that the case has drawn in the last few days,’’ the officer added. Meanwhile, police have sought viscera sample reports of the deceased.

‘‘We have written to the State Forensic Sciences Laboratory to expedite the examination of the viscera which was sent for forensic examination after post-mortem was conducted,’’ DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.
