JAJPUR: Two persons were killed after being run over by a speeding truck near Chhatia on NH-5 under Barachana police limits in the district on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Keshab Chandra Samal (50) of Kaitha village and Amar Kumar Sahu (36) of Gopalpur. They were employees of local Indian Oil filling station.

The accident occurred while the two were on their way to Cuttack on a motorcycle from the filling station, to deposit money in a bank. A speeding truck hit them from behind while they were crossing the NH, police said.

After the incident, locals staged road blockade by placing the bodies on the road, demanding adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased. Vehicular traffic between Chandikhole and Cuttack was disrupted over an hour following the road blockade. The blockade was withdrawn after the oil company assured compensation of `2 lakh each for the families. Later, police seized the bodies and sent them for post mortem.
