PARADIP: Susant Sethy, a close associate of Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL) managing director Mahimananda Mishra, was forwarded to court on Sunday in connection with the murder of Mahendra Swain, manager of Seaways Shipping Limited (SSL).

Amid tight security, Paradip Police produced Sethy before Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kujang who rejected his bail plea and sent him to Kujang sub jail.
 IIC of Paradip Police station Subhransu Kumar Nayak said, police have sought remand of Sethy for a detailed investigation of Swain’s murder. A total of seven persons have been arrested so far, he added. It may be recalled that Paradip police with the help of their Delhi counterparts arrested him from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Friday. Later, police produced him in Patiala House court and brought him on transit remand.

Earlier, police  had arrested five persons, including three belonging to Jharkhand, in connection with the gunning down of Swain in the port town on October 26, the police said.
On the other hand, Congress leader Bapi Sarkhel has been shifted from Allipingal jail to Choudwar jail for security reasons on Friday.
Sarkhel, also a trade union leader, was arrested by Paradip police on November 18 in connection with SSL manager’s murder and was first lodged in Kujang jail.
