MALKANGIRI: Maoist rebels abducted two villagers from a 'rehabilitation camp' for surrendered Naxalites in Malkangiri district of Odisha and killed one of them early Tuesday morning.

The deceased man's name is Rabi Pujari. The fate of the other villager, Nanda Golari was not known.

At least 60 armed guerrillas led by Maoist leader Ramakrishna alias RK trooped into Kudmulgumma village yesterday and stormed a camp where Maoist sympathisers who had surrendered to superintendent of police Mitrabhanu Mahapatra last month were lodged. The camp is 800 m from a BSF camp under the Orkel police limits.

After the raid, when the Naxalites disappeared into the woods around the village, they took Rabi Pujari and Nanda Golari with them at gunpoint.

Early this morning, Rabi Pujari's body was found on the outskirts of the village with his throat slit. Sources said he was killed after a kangaroo court trial.

Irate villagers protested Rabi Pujari's killing and picketed the Kumuduguma police outpost, blocking the Balimela-Jeypore main road with the body of the slain man. Villagers said the district police failed to provide security at the 'rehabilitation camp'.
