PARADIP : Managing Director of Odisha Stevedores Limited (OSL), Mahimananda Mishra and his aide, Basant Bal were sent to Kujang Sub-Jail after rejection of their bail applications on Tuesday.

The duo, charged in the murder of Seaways Shipping and Logistics Pvt Limited (SSL) senior executive Mahendra Swain in October, was formally arrested by police and brought to Paradip on Monday evening.

They were produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kujang, which remanded them in judicial custody. The court also allowed Paradip Police to take Mishra on a four-day remand from December 29 for interrogation. Later in the evening, Mishra had to be admitted to Jagatsinghpur Hospital after he complained of high BP, vomitting and chest pain.

In another development, District and Session Judge Jagatsinghpur, rejected the bail plea of Congress leader Bapi Sarkhel. Sarkhel was arrested by Paradip police in the SSL manager murder case. During the hearing, Sarkhel’s lawyer argued that he should be granted bail as his name does not appear in the FIR and this was a conspiracy against him ahead of the panchayat election.

Opposing the bail plea, public prosecutor argued that Sarkhel should not be released on bail as this might affect the investigation. So far, the updated case diary and postmortem report have not been furnished before court. After hearing both the sides, the judge rejected the bail petition.
