Municipality chief suspended from BJD

The chairperson of Vyasanagar Municipality, Sabita Rout, was suspended from the BJD for anti-party activities by party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday.

JAIPUR: The chairperson of Vyasanagar Municipality, Sabita Rout, was suspended from the BJD for anti-party activities by party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday.

Reacting to the suspension, Rout said, “I am yet to receive any communication from my party authorities in this regard. I learnt about my suspension from the media. Even I was not asked for any explanation to present my views before initiating action against me,” said Rout.

“I am in the party for the last 14 years and didnot indulge in any anti-party activities. As a disciplined party member I will abide by whatever the party decides,” she added.

In September, a no-confidence motion was moved against Rout by Congress Councillors with the support of her party members and councillors. In the 26-member municipality, BJD has the majority with 16 members followed by Congress with nine and a lone independent member.

The Congress had moved the no-confidence motion with the support of seven disgruntled BJD members against the chairperson last month. Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra had intervened in the matter and bail her out from the no confidence motion.
