MALKANGIRI : Members of the district unit of All Odisha Panchayat Executive Officers Association have threatened to boycott the forthcoming panchayat poll in protest against the Government’s failure to meet their four-point charter of demands.
There are 95 Panchyat Executive Officers (PEOs) in Malkangiri and they currently on agitation over the demands as a result of which, development works in all the 108 gram panchayats across the district have been hit.
In a release, the vice-president of the district unit of the association, Dillip Das said that even if their cease work has entered 24 days today, the government is yet to fulfill their genuine demands.
Though the model code of conduct for the three tier panchayat election is in force, the cease work will continue for an indefinite period and the PEOs will not cooperate with the Government in the ensuing panchayat poll, Das said. They have been sitting on dharna in front of the Collectors office.
They are demanding graduation be the qualification for appointment of PEOs and publication of ‘method of recruitment and condition of services rules’ as per the decision of the Panchayati Raj Department, early gazette notification on the implementation of RACP in 10,20 and 30 years with a grade pay of `4200,`4600 and `5400 respectively in view of the High Court order, provision of pension for the PEOs, who have been promoted as gram panchayat secretary and 100 percent promotional provision of PEO to the post of gram panchayat extension officer.
