CUTTACK: A 55-year-old man of Sainpada village under Pikola gram panchayat on Thursday filed an FIR with Salepur police against five persons for torturing him after he refused to pay money to suspected terror operative Abdul Rehman.

However, the sensational allegation turned out to be false after police investigation.
In the FIR, the complainant Sk Tahimir Ali alleged that five of his neighbours - Abdul Rouf Khan, Gulam Rajin Khan, Sk Jahar Ali, Samsul Khan and Mohammad Idris - demanded `50,000 from him to meet the expenses required for legal battle of Rehman who is presently lodged Tihar Jail.

When he expressed his inability to arrange the amount, they compelled him to bring the money from his son who is working in Saudi Arabia. Tahimir alleged that the accused barged into his house and assaulted him when he refused to comply.

The five accused further tried to outrage modesty of Tahimir’s wife.
However, after investigation, Salepur police found Tahimir’s allegation to be false. IIC, Salepur police station Prasant Kumar Majhi said during interrogation, Tahimir confessed to have brought the allegation against the five for opposing his decision to accept his wife whom he had divorced.

Police said Tahimir, who had divorced his wife, subsequently accepted her again within the ‘Iddat’ period which is contrary to custom of Muslim community. Since he was facing strong protest from his community, Tahimir had hatched the plan to falsely implicate the five who were leading the opposition against him.
