SAMBALPUR: Activists of Sambalpur district unit of BJP gheraoed the collectorate here on Thursday protesting failure of BJD-led Government in initiating development.

They pasted the memorandum, addressed to Governor SC Jamir, on the wall of the collectorate after Collector Samarth Verma did not turn up to receive it.

The memorandum stated that no visible development has taken place in the State despite availability of resources during 17-year tenure of Naveen Patnaik.

They said indiscipline and corruption are rising day by day due to faulty policy and lackadaisical attitude of the Government. Besides, the number of unemployed youths is on the rise.

Alleging that industrialisation has failed to boost employment, the memorandum cited the instance of unemployment among local youths despite massive industrialisation in the district.

Flaying the anti-farmer policy of the State Government, the BJP workers said the State Government has failed to provide crop insurance, input subsidy and bonus to the farmers.

National secretary of BJP, Suresh Pujari hit out at the State Government over the fire mishap at the SUM Hospital and said health services have collapsed. He also criticised the Government for its failure in checking spread of Japanese Encephalitis (JE).

“Naveen is playing up the Mahanadi issue to construct Manibhadra and Sindol dam projects over the river which is the hidden agenda of his Government,” he said.

Among others, Kuchinda MLA Rabi Naik, Sambalpur district BJP president Ramchandra Meher and Sambalpur district BJP Yuva Morcha president Rikan Pattnaik also spoke.

Earlier, the BJP workers took out rallies from three different points of the city to reach the district collectorate.
