Super-speciality courses in offing for VIMSAR medicos

BHUBANESWAR: The governing body of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) on Thursday decided to introduce super-speciality medical courses in the institute.

The first meeting of VIMSAR governing body chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi gave in principle approval to proposals for introduction of specialised degree courses and more super-speciality units in paediatric surgery, cardio-therapy, advance laparoscopy, surgical oncology, renal transplantation, surgical gastroenterology, plastic surgery and endocrinology.

It was also decided to have one extended campus of the university with modern infrastructural facilities. Sub-committees were formed to look in to details of these developmental agenda.

“VIMSAR will be developed into a centre of excellence. Director of the institute has been asked to formulate specific project proposals for further improvement in healthcare services,” Padhi told reporters after the meeting.

He said the meeting discussed on dedicated recruitment for VIMSAR through Odisha Public Service Commission.

Health and Family Welfare Secretary Arti Ahuja said the process of recruitment for VIMSAR has started. While 27 assistant professors in different disciplines have been appointed, steps have been taken for recruitment of associate professors and the process will be completed within three months.

Informing that the fund provision for VIMSAR has been increased substantially, Ahuja said `70 crore would be provided as equipment and instrument fund and `4.5 crore would be given as annual maintenance grant. The contingency for the medical college has been increased from `95 lakh to `1.01 crore. Members of the governing body expressed concern over absence of doctors during hospital hours.

The Chief Secretary directed VIMSAR authorities to introduce bio-metric attendance and CCTVs and enforce rules of attendance without any excuse.

Among others, BJD MPs Nagendra Kumar Pradhan and Prabhas Kumar Samal, MLAs Raseswari Panigrahi, Rohit Pujari and Susanta Singh and VIMSAR Director Sonamali Bag participated.
