KV Singhdeo seeks government details on Mahanadi meet

BHUBANESWAR: Leader of BJP legislature party KV Singhdeo on Tuesday asked the State Government to provide details of its preparedness for the proposed tripartite meeting in New Delhi on the Mahanadi water dispute.Questioning the sincerity of the Naveen Patnaik Government while seeking public opinion from intellectuals, social organisations and political parties on the controversial issue, Singhdeo said the people must know in what way their lives will be affected by the projects taken up by Chhattisgarh Government on the upper stream of Mahanadi river. The people of the State will be able to give their suggestions on the issue only if they are aware of the facts. The State Government should keep all information on the issue including the remedial measures and course of action planned by Odisha before the September 17 meeting, he said. Welcoming the belated decision of the Government seeking public views on the river dispute, Singhdeo said the ruling BJD had thus far treated the issue as a party affair.
